Brendan Gallagher has long maintained a comprehensive career as an independent artist in the Australian music industry - singer, songwriter, composer, author & performer.

Producer of over forty albums in as many years, more than half as an artist. Indigenous luminaries like LJ Hill, Emma Donovan, Kutcha Edwards and Aussie music icons Doc Neeson, Jeremy Oxley, Dave Mason & more including two ARIA award winners – Jimmy Little’s Messenger and Karma County’s Into The Land Of Promise. Brendan was music director for Buried Country, the touring theatre production of the untold story of Aboriginal country music by Clinton Walker.

Since 2006 he’s produced and released seven solo albums and maintains an active live performance schedule in Australia and Europe. Brendan has played guitar on recordings for artists like David Bowie, Jimmy Little and Kylie Minogue. His Open Tuning Chord Book For Guitar, first published in 1994, is now in it’s 4th edition worldwide through Hal Leonard.

His songs are in films like Somersault, Clubland & The Boys Are Back and TV shows like Sea Change & City Homicide. He’s composed for short films and documentaries for ABC and SBS TV. In 2009 he scored Aussie feature film Subdivision.

Since 2001 Brendan has been active in education – teaching part time in the music department at Ultimo TAFE, Australian Institute of Music and University of Technology, Sydney, and conducting production & songwriting workshops at the annual Bondi WAVE program as well as producer lectures at SAE. He has also conducted open tune/slide guitar masterclasses in Australia, UK & Italy.

Brendan has been an APRA Ambassador since 2010 and was a Writer Director from 2014-2020. He was elected to the Executive Committee of The International Council of Music Creators (CIAM) in 2017, and was Vice Chair (and a founding member) of the Asia Pacific Music Creators Alliance 2016-2021.
